BEN LITTLE
Electrical and Computer Engineering Major | Cornell University
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP
Hilcorp Energy Company | Milne Point | May 2025 - August 2026
Projects:
-
Facility selective coordination
-
PowerMax load shedding
-
Datalogger programming

Rewiring a gaumer heater
SELECTIVE COORDINATION
-
Coordinated 100+ medium & low voltage breakers
-
Extracted breaker nameplate and trip settings from field
-
Modeled data in ETAP
-
Completed coordination studies via time current curve charts
-
Changed breaker trip settings to reflect calculated setup
-
Increased facility up-time (by decreasing nuisance trips) and increased system safety

A time current curve chart created in ETAP
POWERMAX LOADSHEDDING
-
Developed and presented the authorization for expenditure for the new Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories PowerMax loadshedding system at Milne Point Alaska
-
When commissioned in 2027, this automated load shed system will save millions of dollars per load shed event, by increasing field up time
-
Modeled power system in Excel to understand small-grid electrical inertia issues
-
Developed preliminary load shed logic in Excel, for easy visualization
DATALOGGER PROGRAMMING
-
Programmed a SEL-735 power quality meter and two TESLA 4000 power quality meters
-
Achieved communication over network and fixed memory overload issues
-
Viewed historical power system faults to program high-speed data gathering triggers for future faults
-
These power quality meters now enable faster and more precise system failure analysis
